Abstract

This study examines the effect of COVID-19 on financial reporting and disclosure requirements in Abuja, Nigeria. The objectives are to: (1) analyze changes in financial reporting standards due to the pandemic, (2) assess the impact of COVID-19 on disclosure practices, and (3) evaluate the challenges faced by companies in meeting new reporting requirements. A survey design was utilized to collect data from financial managers and accountants across various industries. The sample size, calculated using Taro Yamane's formula, ensures the study's findings are statistically valid. Dangote Group was selected as the case study due to its significant market presence and reporting adjustments during the pandemic. The reliability coefficient score of the survey was 0.90. The findings reveal that COVID-19 has led to substantial changes in financial reporting standards, with companies facing increased challenges in disclosures and compliance. It is recommended that regulatory bodies provide clear guidelines and support to help companies navigate these changes effectively.
